This 1-day workshop is designed to immerse participants in crafting a compelling travel narrative inspired by the popular New York Times 36 Hours travel series. Each attendee will create their version of a 36-hour itinerary in Singapore, highlighting the city’s vibrant food scene, diverse art, intriguing people, and distinctive architecture all through photography.
Your task will be to assemble a five-picture story that showcases your unique perspective in Singapore and what captivates you about the country. Your instructor and editor, Justin Mott, who has extensive experience with the series having completed numerous 36 Hours assignments across Asia for The New York Times, will provide hands-on coaching throughout the weekend.
You will have scheduled one-on-one sessions with Justin to review your work, receive feedback, and then go back out to reshoot, ensuring your story is cohesive and well-rounded. Justin’s guidance will help you refine your storytelling skills and produce a travel story that resonates. This workshop is meant to give you the real-life experience of working as an assignment photographer while having fun along the way.
Itinerary:
6:00 AM – 7:00 AM: Introduction to Assignment • Justin presents his New York Times 36 Hours assignment work shot in Southeast Asia, sharing techniques and advice on capturing these assignments effectively.
7:30AM – 11 :00AM: Shooting Session • Participants head out to start shooting their assignments based on the brief provided.
11:00AM – 2:00 PM: Open Feedback Session • Participants gather at the Leica store for an open feedback session with Justin. • Each participant receives personalised 1:1 feedback on the images they’ve captured, focusing on improvement strategies.
2:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Continued Shooting • Participants continue shooting for their assignments.
4:00 PM – 6:00 PM: Final Review and Editing • Participants engage in a 1:1 final review session with Justin. • They edit their photo stories, refining their narratives.
7:00 PM – 8:00 PM: Wrap-up and Photo Sharing • Wrap-up session where participants share their best photos from the day. • Discussion and feedback on standout images.

Things to note:
1:1 Session would last around 5 – 10 mins per person.
Participants would be required to bring their own cameras—any type is welcomed. A limited range of Leica cameras will be available on a first come, first serve basis.
