The optical construction consists of eight elements divided into six groups. With a consistent performance in terms of contrast, vignetting and aberration even at fully open aperture, the Apo-Macro-Elmarit-R 100 mm f/2.8 is exemplary in the 35 mm field. Combined with its extremely high resolution capabilities, it means that the lens is also suitable for a multitude of situations other than macro photography.
